From the Editor's Desk: Some speedy thoughts in advance of MobileCON

Phil Nickinson

We are headed to sunny San Diego this month -- just one of my new favorite towns -- for the drop CTIA celebration. The previous numerous years it can be been referred to as CTIA " Enterprise and Programs," which very substantially was just what it sounded like. Put it this way -- it can be no CES or MWC, which is for confident.

The fall event has been rebranded "MobileCON," which primarily can imply everything the wi-fi business group wishes it to. On the other hand, with bullet factors like " Business Industry Highlight " and a keynote deal with from the BlackBerry CIO and a U.S. Air Force IT type, it is fairly protected to say we are still knee- serious in business listed here.

Anyhoo, we'll be bringing it all to you this month.

A handful of other feelings to get issues heading :

  • Speaking of CTIA, that implies the Samsung Stratosphere turns one. And it can be acquiring rising pains.
  • Nexus rumors sure are fascinating, are not they! Know what genuinely excites me, though ? What really tickles my extravagant ? Info. I am amusing like that.
  • Even much less thrilling is seeing rumor reports hedged to within the past inch of their existence. Possibly personal the rumor, or never publish it. Hedging is this kind of sweet bullshit.
  • Is there a dearth of real gadgets to go over or some thing ? Did I skip the memo?
  • How substantially of these following -Android- version rumors are only rehashed from what Google told us was coming at Google IO developer conference this summertime ? I have obtained some video clips to enjoy once more.
  • Why do we act like it truly is so surprising to see a new version of Android starting up to peek out? It is not like perform instantly s topped and no one was advised, was it?
  • I am all about receiving a 32- or 64 -gigabyte Nexus 7 tablet. (Or any other machine for that make any difference.) Which is not to say you will find not a put in this entire world for cloud-storage-centric products. I feel it comes down to personal use. I'm in airplanes a good deal. I require regional storage. I need to have both equally, really, but I will need the choice.
  • It was nice to in fact podcast two weeks in a row. Forgot how considerably entertaining that can be. We never make dollars on them. Hell, they value funds, and they are time-consuming. But they're also a great deal of fun. And we're about to move 2. five million downloads, which just floors me.
  • And if you did not catch the stop of this earlier week's podcast...
  • Plague Inc. is fun, and I'm astonished the prospect of ending all human life on Earth didn't trouble me in the slightest. But it seems to be one more 1 of all those vid eo games that's striving just a small far too tricky for the in-app purchases. This sucker's hard.

That is it for today. See ya'll from San Diego.
